If your child attends a private school or homeschooled, Jon Peterson scholarships from the Ohio Department of Education provide needed tutoring for struggling learners.   To apply:

  • First, call the Special Education Department of your public school district and ask for your child to be tested for a learning difference. The school district has 60 days to complete the testing.
  • After testing, the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) created by the school district makes you eligible for approximately $10,000 for tutoring.
  • Once the IEP is complete, a Jon Peterson provider can submit an application in your behalf to the Ohio Department of Education for the scholarship.
  • The scholarship is then awarded, and Orton-Gillingham (OG) tutoring can begin.

OG tutoring is the most effective method for teaching kids who are dyslexic or otherwise struggle with learning. I am an OG tutor, and begin this journey with my own son in 2011.   For more information, contact me: tutor@OGparents.org. Future blog posts will further explain this important scholarship.
